Hello gorgeous people!!! How's your week going?
I'm having a good one! Lots of fun and frolics, not to mention I'm feeling extremely energetic and motivated at the moment. My sudden spur of motivation means I'm getting lots done and enjoying the feeling once I've accomplished something.
I'm just talking small things, like learning a new German word (and actually using it), getting myself to the gym, finish of the book that's been sat on my shelf for months!! I like it when things get done. It's a rather nice feeling!
So one of the things that finally got ticked off on my 'things to do list', was a gift for my friend Andrew.
Andrew is my (just in case he reads this:-)) amazingly talented, extremely good looking, kind, considerate, humorous best buddy and he wanted a "snood" for his birthday.
I bought some truly scrumptious 'Alpaca Chunky" in a deep shade of grey which I thought would be perfect for this project.
I've worked with this yarn once before, on a similar project I made for myself last winter. The yarn is so nice to work with. It's extremely luxurious and keeps you very warm when wrapped around your neck on a cold day in Hamburg.
Last year I simply made mine using single crochet, here's how it looked:
With Andrew's snood I decided to use double crochet. I alternated between working through the back loops and front loops of each round, giving it a ribbed effect.
This project was extremely quick to make. Not only is the yarn very thick, but I also required a BEAST of a hook!
I was extremely pleased with how it turned out. Thick layers of extravagant yarn ready to defend against the coming winter.
Andrew was also delighted with his gift!! He ever so kindly became my model and let me take a couple of pictures of him wearing it.
It's such a nice feeling when you give a handmade present to someone. To see them actually wearing your creation and enjoying the effort it took to make. It really makes me feel extremely proud.
Sooo untill next time my lovelies!!! Happy Friday and enjoy your weekends!!!

Beautiful work. It makes me think of the post I did awhile back called 10 Sexy Men Sporting Crochet Cowls!
ReplyDeleteIts just looks so comfy..!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a good friend you are! Wow, that is one huge hook! I have a new project planned and made a purchase from KnitPicks for it.. I'm going to make a Christmas afghan for the leather chair in our den and a pillow to match.
ReplyDelete((hugs)), Teresa :-)
It is such a good feeling when someone likes our creations enough to actually use them. I really like the ribbed effect you have created; it gives it a nice structure. When I read the title of your blog I thought you meant you were making the kind of snood old ladies where to keep their hair in place at night - lol I couldn't think why on earth someone called 'Andrew' would need one!! I have to say I am relieved its the different kind of snood. xxx
ReplyDeletegorgeous, it looks fantastic on andrew and I'm sure he will appreciate it for years to come.
ReplyDeleteI agree, giving handmade gists is like giving someone you love a woolly hug, theres no better gift.
Have a lovely weekend XXX
That's such a gorgeous snood! Homemade gifts are the best! x
ReplyDeletebeautiful snood - beautiful friend! x

Hi Matt,
ReplyDeleteAndrew is one lucky fellow! The snood turned out fab!! I like that he can appreciate the effort, and yes you are right, it looks great on him!
Have a nice week!!
Hedwig
That is so gorgeous!! Funnily enough I bought some super chunky yarn today to make a cowl/snood... although, mine isn't as fancy as the Rowan Alpaca yarn! It's lovely that Andrew really appreciates it, it looks very good on him!

Hey there, I just stopped by to say you won the Liebster Award, check out my post on it: http://mygurumi.blogspot.de/2012/11/mein-liebster.html
ReplyDeleteGreat looking snood. Have you given the gorgeous blanket to your friend. I would have like to be a fly on the wall when she saw that.
ReplyDeletelooks great..thanks for explaining how you got the ribbed effect
ReplyDeleteHow nice! (so is the snood).
ReplyDeleteWell I just love it.....all of it! The luscious alpaca, the chunky monkey crochet hook, and both the snoods!! And of course your best buddy Andrew for being a kind, considerate and humorous buddy to you!!!
ReplyDeletePlaying catchup here. Was sad when I saw your beautiful face alone on the sidebar, but I know some things in life aren't forever. Thankfully we still have you Matt. XO!
ReplyDeleteOkay enough of the dramatics....hello fantastic Snood. I have a slight addiction to gray yarn and let me tell you this Snood makes my heart leap!
Beautiful =)
ReplyDeleteHappy Crocheting ;P
XOXO
Your "snood" is really a cowl or "neck cozy"
ReplyDelete"Snood" refers to a mesh crochet or knitted hair covering worn by women or men.
Regardless, your creations are exquisite. Clearly, you possess an artistic streak along with infinite patience, perseverance, and control, qualities I could use more of especially in attempting a granny afghan- lol
Did you have a pattern for your snood?
ReplyDeleteHola buena tarde !!! Buscndo en la red mantas he encontrado tu blog, realmente encantador y las labores.... espectaculres.

http://karita-october.blogspot.com/2012/11/young-love-its-more-than-much-ado-about.html It's really cute, but it is a cowl, not a snood. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's 6 am and I can't sleep so I decided to browse the internet for some crochet, and this is the first page I've opened. Nice stitch, color, everything! Yet, what I have to say, your page filled me with such a special feeling of care and tenderness...! I'm glad your energies opened me to this day. Greetings :) <3
