Busy Bee

Hello Lovelies! How are you all? A little catch up with each other has been long overdue! I'm here now with a cup of tea at hand and ready for a good natter.
Whats been going on? Well....recently I've been taking the form of a bee, a BUSY BEE.

I've had lots going on over the past few weeks and it seems that things aren't about to slow down anytime soon.
I've been given a new position at work. I guess you could say, a promotion.
As most of you know my actual job is not as a full time crocheter, but as a singer/dancer. I'm currently in the Disney musical, Tarzan. It's based on the animated movie.
I've been working on this show for a few years now and LOVE it! It's physically very demanding, but also a very rewarding job. It's definitely a show that I'm very proud of.

The show not only has lots of dancing, but also a lot of aerial/ flying stunts.  It's the aerial department where I find my new position at work. As of next month I'm going to be the "Aerial Captain" on the show. So it means I'm not only in charge of teaching new cast members how to fly, but I'll also be maintaining the standard of flying in the show.
I'm so excited and happy to be given the opportunity and challenge that this position brings and I can not wait to get stuck into rehearsals with the new cast members!

With the new position coming up, I've found myself having to be VERY organised. I've been spending a lot of time sat at my laptop, making sure I know exactly what I'll be doing in the up and coming weeks.

I've got into a little habit of always having a cup of coffee next to me when I'm working on the computer. Sometimes I'm even taking my laptop to the local cafe to enjoy the amazing coffee, along with a scrummy macaroon.

This habit has got to stop though!! I'm not only eating too many macaroons but getting a little frantic from a constant caffeine high. EEEEEK!

I've also been away from my blog for a little while as I seem to have fallen into a little trap.
The more my blog has progressed as a "crafting blog" the more I have felt that I HAVE to keep delivering new ideas and projects with every post. Sometimes I don't have a new project and sometimes I have no new ideas to share. Therefore, I very stupidly I haven't been posting as much. That makes me sad, as I love writing blog posts.
It was whilst chatting with the lovely Rachel on Ravelry that I realised I had fallen into a cycle of feeling like I have to keep delivering.
Rachel said to me that she had heard of people that "constantly make projects just so they have something to blog about". It hit me like a ton of bricks! This is what I had started to do and it was really taking the fun out of my blog. In fact it was making my blog feel like a burden and a constant pressure. So... as of now, I'm going back to basics. Blogging all the time and not only when I have a finished project.

Of course the projects will keep coming! Here's a little something I'm working on at the moment and loving!

This little creation is my first attempt at Tunisian crochet. It creates a very different look to "regular" crochet. I'm rather enjoying this striped mass of colour!

I feel good that I've got all that of my chest. Suddenly have a lot of things I want to talk to you all about and am excited to be sharing more than just my finished crochet projects, but also a glimpse into my life. SUCH FUN!! (yes....I'm obsessed with the TV show Miranda!!)

  2. Wow Matt, Tarzan looks AMAZING! And exhausting too!
Of course we all love to see your crafty creations, but we are just as interested to read about the other things you have going on on your life too! We would all be a little boring if all we could talk about was crochet!!!
    So please....Carry On Blogging!!

  3. Yay, I love hearing about your life as much as seeing your projects. I think you are so talented. Not just as a crafter. I will happily read all of your posts about everything you are up to. Congratulations on the job.
    That is so exciting. XOXO

  4. Hooray! Who says you 'need' a craft to share with every post? While I have been steadily crafting as of late (I'm working on a stripey afghan myself to use up my stash), I don't have a blog at all and I haven't even posted pics on facebook *sheepish grins*
Oh congrats on your promotion! How lovely to have a job that you love!

  5. Congratulations!!! Tarzan look amazing. I definitely know the feeling about only blogging when you have crafty things to show and I too have fallen into the trap. But I so enjoyed just reading about your day to day doings and having a little giggle over how many coffee's you are consuming as I too, have the same bad habit lol. Love the crochet too!!!

  7. Matt, you are so wonderful we want to hear about all your thoughts. You see I think we start a blog about a particular subject then it morphs into so much more. While you amaze me with your amazing ideas in the craft world, you wonderful personality is what shines through no matter what you blog about.

  8. Hi Matt

I too, love to hear what you've been up to, doesn't matter to me if there's a project or not. Don't feel you need to keep producing, I just waffle on about nothing most of the time. The flying is amazing, congratutaltions.

  12. Hi Matt,
Your job sounds so interesting and it is exciting to hear about. Not all of us have such cool things going on in our lives. I have a blog but have not posted since Nov. Things got too stressful in my life last year and I didn't want to talk about alot of it. I would like to start up but just not sure yet. I always enjoy reading you no matter what. ~Hugs, Patti

  21. I'm glad my random ramblings struck a chord.

Now, a word of warning - I'm typing this on a rubbish keyboard which is attached to my lap top because of a tea related incident on the LT keyboard earlier this year. Also, I'm mobileless because I dropped my iphone straight into a mug of coffee at my Mum's last week. D'oh. I'm hoping these things DON'T go in threes. So use one of those insulated mugs with the lid on maybe? :-)

Well done on the promotion. I should come and see the show and catch up with German relations in Hamburg sometime.
PS: I just knew you were also a Miranda fan. I said so a while ago. xxxx

  22. good luck with your new job Matt, it sounds like a really nice challenge!
And by the way, I like reading your blog, also without a new project every time. There is enough out on Pinterest to full fill that need for me. :-) Hope you will enjoy just nattering to us again.
    Take care, Pauline

  23. Gosh...such a relief. I am so guilty of No new project = No blog post. After reading this post I think I will blog about life in general too!!
Congratulations on your promotion... it is well deserved for all the hard work you put in. Have a great weekend.

  24. Your blog is very fun to read, no matter what you're going on about. I find that I enjoy regular life posts, just as much as the crafty ones. I've also taken my first crack at tunisian crochet, but I'm doing an entrelac pattern. I've had fits and starts but it's coming along quite nicely now. Definitely a different feel to the hands than regular crochet, though.

  25. Keep blogging! I don't need to see a new creation all the time but I do enjoy reading about your exciting life. Your personality shines thru all your blog posts and that is what is most important. Very happy that things are going so well for you. Stay happy!

  26. Great news about the new job. I hope it turns out to be all you want it to be. I love all your creative stuff but it's nice to just hear what you are up to, craft-wise or not. Above all, keep up with the blogging.

  27. Matt.. I'm glad you realized that you don't need to just talk crochet here. When I began to blog I titled my blog "Teresa's Crochet" - and then saw quickly that I don't crochet enough to do that - so now I call my blog a "lifestyle blog" and just photograph all kinds of things to share and I'm happy with that. I haven't seen you visit my blog lately, time for you to pop over! And congrats on the promotion!! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  28. As a new blogger I am still finding my way and it is really interesting to read about how you 'fell in this trap' :-) Just keep telling us about things and posting some pictures, no need to share a project all the time!

  33. I just this week found your blog and enjoyed seeing your projects, but even more enjoyed hearing about your life. Reading about your job (which sounds SO exciting!) and your life in Europe is very exciting for this American. Your white apartment walls, colorful flowers and crochet projects, and professional-quality photographs inspire me. Thank you for sharing your life!

  34. I just this week found your blog and have so thoroughly enjoyed it. I got interested because of one of your crochet projects (I LOVE the bright colors you use) but stayed interested enough to read your entire blog because you are a great writer and because of your writing style I now feel like you're a friend. Please keep us updated on yourself, your job, your city, and your hobby ....... and in that order. :)

  35. Good for you with the promotion!! That aerial stuff sounds very impressive and just a we bit scary for someone like me who's afraid of heights but the tunisian crochet is right up my alley. Always wanted to try that.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Congratulations on the promotion! And I completely know what you mean about the pressure to create things so that you can blog about them! I know that I love reading your posts whatever they're about - so please blog to your heart's content!!!

That Tunisian crochet has a really lovely look to it - I've not seen it before. That might be something new for me to try!

  38. Matt, I'm so glad you finally posted a picture of your Tunisian crochet project. Tunisian crochet is challenging, isn't it, but very rewarding once you get the hang of it. And congratulations on the promotion, I know you deserve it. And don't worry about not having a project to blog about each time, we like to hear about you, too! Nancy.

  39. Congrats!! That looks like a fantastic show, it has energy, passion, action, great singing and acting!! I love your blog but don't come here expecting new projects etc in every post. What inspires me about certain blogs are (in no particular order) crafty things, life moments, lovely pictures, inspiring words, a bit of this and a bit of that, reflections .... Don't feel the pressure and continue with your lovely blog.

  42. Wonderful news about your new aerial promotion! Matt, I just found your blog, and I wanted to thank you. I too have got into that rut of "can't post until I finish something". So, I'm going to take your lead and just write.. after I read the rest of your blog, that is :D
